When does the chat use web search?

Whenever the model decides fresh facts are needed (news, prices, current state of a project). The agent tool web_search is one of six default tools on the general skill, so it is available in every chat.

Which providers does Alma use?

Brave and Tavily for the universal path (every paid plan), plus Anthropic native web_search on Max for inline citations. The picker is automatic; you do not need to switch.

Are search results cached?

Yes, briefly. Identical queries within a short window reuse the same result set to keep latency low and stay inside the rate limit.

What are the rate limits?

20 requests per minute per user. The chat respects this automatically; manual searches surface a friendly throttle message when you hit the limit.

The chat agent calls web search automatically when a question needs fresh facts; you can also issue manual searches from the Web Search surface.
